Fazlollah Nikayin, The Quran; The First Poetic Translation (2000)
With those who bow before Me.
44. Do you enjoin every good deed,
Upon the public, but neglect,
Your very souls, and yet you read
The Scriptures? Do you not reflect!
45. Nay, seek assistance through
Patience and prayers; no doubt,
This is exacting discipline,
Except to the devout,
46. Who know that they will meet their Lord,
And that to Him they will return.
47. O Sons of Israel, do pay attention
Unto the favours that I have before,
Bestowed on you, and that I blessed you more
Than any nation;
48. And guard yourselves against the Day
When not a soul avails another,
When neither intercession may for her,
Be sanctioned, nor some compensation,
Is from her taken, nor unto her given
Any succour from any quarter.
49. Remember how We saved you from the people,
Of Pharaoh, who subjected you to dreadful torment:
Your sons they slaughtered, but they spared your daughters,
And this was, from your Lord, a trial vehement.
