Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

and make your feet steady.
8 As for the faithless,
their lot will be to fall [into ruin],1
and He will make their works go awry.
9 That is because they loathed
what Allah has sent down,
so He made their works fail.
10 Have they not travelled over the land
so that they may observe
how was the fate of those who were before them?
Allah destroyed them,
and a similar [fate] awaits the faithless.
11 That is because Allah is the protector of the faithful,
and because the faithless have no protector.
12 Indeed Allah will admit those who have faith
and do righteous deeds
into gardens with streams running in them.
As for the faithless, they enjoy and eat
just like the cattle eat,
and the Fire will be their [final] abode.
13 How many a town there has been
which was more powerful than your town
which expelled you,
which We have destroyed,
and they had no helper.
14 Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord
like someone
to whom the evil of his conduct is made to seem decorous,
and who follow their desires?

1 Or ‘their lot will be wretchedness.’
