Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

1 Ḥā, Mīm,
2 ‘Ayn, Sīn, Qāf.
3 Thus does He reveal to you
and to those who were before you,
Allah, the All-mighty, the All-wise:
4 to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens
and whatever is in the earth,
and He is the All-exalted, the All-supreme.
5 The heavens are about to be rent apart
from above them,
while the angels celebrate the praise of their Lord
and plead for forgiveness for those on the earth.
Look! Allah is indeed the All-forgiving, the All-merciful!
6 As for those who have taken guardians besides Him,
Allah is watchful over them,
and it is not your duty to watch over them.
7 Thus have We revealed to you an Arabic Qur’ān
that you may warn
[the people of] the Mother of the Towns1
and those around it,
and warn [them] of the Day of Gathering,2
in which there is no doubt,
[whereupon] a part [of mankind] will be in paradise
and a part will be in the Blaze.
8 Had Allah wished,
He would have surely made them one community;
but He admits whomever He wishes
into His mercy,

1 That is, the city of Makkah.

2 Cf. 64:9.
