Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)
for the prayer is indeed
a timed prescription for the faithful.
104 Do not slacken in the pursuit of these people.1
If you are suffering,
they are also suffering like you,
but you expect from Allah what they do not expect,
and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
105 Indeed We have sent down to you the Book
with the truth,
so that you may judge between the people
by what Allah has shown you;
do not be an advocate for the traitors,
106 and plead to Allah for forgiveness;
indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
107 And do not plead for those who betray themselves;
indeed Allah does not like
someone who is treacherous and sinful.
108 They try to hide [their real character] from people,
but they do not try to hide from Allah,
though He is with them when they conspire overnight
with a discourse that He does not approve of.
And Allah comprehends whatever they do.
109 Aha! There you are,
pleading for them in the life of this world!
But who will plead for them with Allah
on the Day of Resurrection,
or will be their defender?
1 That is, the infidels.
