64. Yet, after that, you did forsake it;
And, were it not for Allah's Grace,
And His compassion, you would be,
Ruined and perished long before this.
65. Surely you've heard of those among you
Who broke the Sabbath, so to them We said:
"Be apes, despised and hated".
66. And thus We made them an example
To their own folk, and any nation
That followed, and an admonition,
For the godfearing people.
67. Recall that Moses to his people said:
"God orders you to sacrifice a cow".
"You mean to have a jest with us?!" They said.
"Allah forbid", he said, "that I allow
Myself to be a blockhead!"
68. "Call on your Lord", they said, "on our behalf,
To make it plain what kind it is to be."
He said: "He says that it's a heifer,
Neither too old, nor very young, but she
Is of an age between;
Do, therefore, as you have been bidden."
69. "Call on your Lord", they said, "on our behalf,
That He enlightens us as to her dye."
He said: "He says she is a yellow cow,
Intensely bright, most pleasing to the eye."
