Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

97. Sūrat al-Qadr 1

In the Name of Allah,
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

1 Indeed We sent it 2 down
on the Night of Ordainment.
2 What will show you
what is the Night of Ordainment?
3 The Night of Ordainment
is better than a thousand months.
4 In it the angels and the Spirit descend,
by the leave of their Lord,
with every command.
5 It is peaceful until the rising of the dawn.

98. Sūrat al-Bayyinah 3

In the Name of Allah,
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

1 The faithless
from among the People of the Book
and the polytheists
were not set apart
until the proof had come to them:

1 Named after the phrase ‘the night of ordainment’ (laylat al-qadr) in verses 1-3.

2 That is, the Qur’ān. See 44:2-5.

3 Named after ‘the proof’ (al-bayyinah) mentioned in verses 1 & 4.
