Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

15 And He does not fear its outcome.

92. Sūrat al-Layl 1

In the Name of Allah,
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

1 By the night when it envelops,
2 by the day when it brightens,
3 by Him who created the male and the female:
4 your endeavours are indeed unlike.
5 As for him who gives and is Godwary
6 and confirms the best promise,
7 We shall surely ease him into facility.
8 But as for him who is stingy
and self-complacent,
9 and denies the best promise,
10 We shall surely ease him into hardship.
11 His wealth shall not avail him when he perishes.
12 Indeed with Us rests guidance,
13 and indeed to Us belong the world and the Hereafter.
14 So I warn you of a blazing fire,
15 which none shall enter except the most wretched
16 — he who denies and turns back.
17 The Godwary shall be spared it
18 — he who gives his wealth to purify himself
19 and does not expect any reward from anyone,
20 but seeks only the pleasure of his Lord,
the Most Exalted,

1The sūrah is named after ‘the night’ (al-layl), mentioned in verse 1.
