and [raise] from our progeny
a nation submissive to You,
and show us our rites [of worship],
and turn to us clemently.
Indeed You are the All-clement, the All-merciful.
129 ‘Our Lord, raise amongst them
an apostle from among them,
who should recite to them Your signs,
and teach them the Book and wisdom,
and purify them.
Indeed You are the All-mighty, the All-wise.’
130 And who will [ever] renounce Abraham’s creed
except one who fools himself?
We certainly chose him in the [present] world,
and in the Hereafter he will indeed be
among the Righteous.1
131 When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’
he said, ‘I submit to the Lord of all the worlds.’
132 Abraham enjoined this [creed] upon his children,
and [so did] Jacob, [saying],
‘My children!
Allah has indeed chosen this religion for you;
so never die except as muslims.’
133 Were you witnesses
when death approached Jacob,
when he said to his children,
‘What will you worship after me?’
