to be [a source of] disquiet in their hearts
until their hearts are cut into pieces,
and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
111 Indeed Allah has bought from the faithful
their souls and their possessions
for paradise to be theirs:
they fight in the way of Allah,
kill, and are killed.
A promise binding upon Him
in the Torah and the Evangel and the Qur’ān.
And who is truer to his promise than Allah?
So rejoice in the bargain you have made with Him,
and that is the great success.
112 [The faithful are] penitent, devout,
celebrators of Allah’s praise,
wayfarers,1
who bow
[and] prostrate [in prayer],
bid what is right
and forbid what is wrong,
and keep Allah’s bounds
— and give good news to the faithful.
113 The Prophet and the faithful may not
plead for the forgiveness of the polytheists,
even if they should be [their] relatives,
after it has become clear to them
that they will be the inmates of hell.
114 Abraham’s pleading forgiveness for his father
