Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

No soul does evil except against itself,
and no bearer shall bear another’s burden;
then to your Lord will be your return,
whereat He will inform you
concerning that about which you used to differ.
165 It is He who has made you successors on the earth,
and raised some of you in rank above others
so that He may test you
in respect to what He has given you.
Indeed your Lord is swift in retribution,
and indeed He is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

7. Sūrat al-A‘rāf 1

In the Name of Allah,
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

1 Alif, Lām, Mīm, Ṣād.
2 [This is] a Book that has been sent down to you
— so let there be no disquiet in your heart
on its account
that you may warn thereby —
and as an admonition for the faithful.
3 Follow what has been sent down to you
from your Lord,
and do not follow any masters besides Him.
Little is the admonition that you take!
4 How many a town We have destroyed!
Our punishment came to it at night,

1 The sūrah is named after ‘the Elevations’ (al-A‘rāf) mentioned in verses 46-8.
