Ali Quli Qarai, The Qur’ān with a Phrase-by-Phrase English Translation (2005)

20 and made in it [various] means of livelihood for you
and for those whom you do not provide for.
21 There is not a thing
but that its sources are with Us,
and We do not send it down
except in a known measure.
22 And We send the fertilizing winds
and send down water from the sky
providing it for you to drink
and you are not maintainers of its resources.
23 Indeed it is We who give life
and bring death
and We are the inheritors.
24 Certainly We know the predecessors among you
and certainly We know the successors,
25 and indeed it is your Lord who will resurrect them.
Indeed He is all-wise, all-knowing.

26 Certainly We created man
out of a dry clay 1
[drawn] from an aging mud,
27 and We created the jinn earlier
out of a piercing fire.
28 When your Lord said to the angels,
‘Indeed I am going to create a human
out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud.
29 So when I have proportioned him
and breathed into him of My spirit,

1 Or ‘clinking clay,’ that is, giving a clinking sound due to being hard and dry. Cf. 15:28
